Doug's Hot Dogs: Reviews & Ratings
I was in town for business and had time to kill before I headed to the airport. A hotdog and an ocean view (nearby) sounded great! Doug’s standard chili cheese dog all the way (onions, mustard and cheese). It was very good! Great service, fun vibe and good food!
We came in on Sunday, a little cold out, had the chili, the bean soup and some dogs. All were great! Service was fast. I can't believe Ive missed this place before.
GREAT Chili Dogs in good old fashioned Beach Hot Dog Stand. Excellent Bean Soup (famous for it). A true Tidewater/ Norfolk institution. Popular w locals.
Somehow I found this place and I’m so glad I did. The servers were very professional and respectful, they even recommended their favorite hot dogs. They have regular ones, and then other types for those feeling more adventurous. Hot dogs were delicious! Thank you so much for everything, I’ll definitely be back!
I recently had the opportunity to stop by Restaurant Doug's Hot Dogs for a quick bite, and I must say it was quite an experience. Located in a small, charming spot with old town vibes, the restaurant has a 1950’s ambiance. The two servers were polite and quick! I ordered two Italian sausages along with a side of chips. While waiting for my order, I couldn't help but notice that the buns were being prepared on the counter for another patron. This raised a slight concern in my mind, wondering if they had done the same with my hot dogs. However, being preoccupied with a phone call, I didn't pay too much attention to it. The Italian sausages themselves were decent, although they seemed to be missing a certain something. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but the flavor didn't quite reach its full potential. Nevertheless, I must admit that I appreciated the fact that I received two sausages instead of one. One was plain, and the other came with sauerkraut, which added a nice tangy twist. However, I would advise the restaurant to go easy on the sauerkraut, as it tended to make the buns moist rather quickly. Alternatively, serving the kraut on the side would be a great solution. Despite these minor drawbacks, I found Restaurant Doug's Hot Dogs to be a charming place to grab a quick bite. It's conveniently located near the beach, making it an ideal stop for those in need of a satisfying meal. The quaint atmosphere, coupled with the friendly servers, adds to the overall appeal of the place. So, if you're looking for a unique hot dog experience with a touch of nostalgia, I would recommend giving this place a try.
Small, quaint diner like eatery w/a straight forward menu. The staff was friendly & polite & I was given service w/a smile. They offer 2 styles of hot dogs.. all beef or the snap dog(w/a casing that has a "snap" to it when you bite into it). I got the snap style.. one was the slaw dog w/fritos which was delicious & the Mac & cheese dog which was also delicious. The Mac & cheese was very creamy & went well w/the dog. Overall a nice little place.. highly recommend if ur looking for a personal feel w/ your meal. They have the "good" ice..lol..I had their limeade to wash it down..
Doug's Hot Dogs is a must-visit for anyone who loves quality hot dogs! My wife couldn't stop raving about the all-beef dogs, and I absolutely loved the popper dogs – a perfect combination of flavor and spice. No matter what you choose, you really can't go wrong. The food was delicious, and the service was friendly and attentive. We'll definitely be back! Highly recommended!

The true highlight at Doug’s is their chili cheese dog—a classic that has rightfully earned acclaim. Topped with onions, mustard, and generous cheese, it delivers a flavorful balance between savory chili and melty cheese that leaves a lasting impression. It’s a must-try for anyone wanting to taste Norfolk’s celebrated chili dogs.
